The facilities of CEIP El Castell needed to be expanded and updated according to the new standards of educational centers. We approached the competition by adding to the above premises a broader look. We looked at the environment and we found the orchard landscape. We had the answer.

We understood the extension project as a set of small and logical interventions from inside the building that would gradually lead to an exterior that needed to move away from the anodyne to link with the nearby landscape.

The proposal proposes to simplify the interior circulations and redistribute certain rooms to ensure a coherent dialogue between the proposed extension and the existing building. The extension makes the existing building grow in two opposite directions, thus involving itself in the outdoor space with a continuous pergola and specific elements that increase the shaded areas of the courtyard. We propose bright colors to give light, grace and contrast to the project. We renaturalized with density the diagonal edges of the plot to reinforce the current green spaces and thus put them in relation to the nearby greenery.
