In this house we wanted to promote outdoor living and take advantage of the city’s mild climate months to create a pleasant confusion between inside and outside for the inhabitants.

The clients wanted an integral reform that combined a practical and controlled architecture that was at the same time uninhibited and fresh.

When we visited the house for the first time, we immediately realised that we were faced with a very particular geometry, as it was a narrow, elongated house articulated through a narrow corridor that lacked right angles. In the studio we studied some rules of the game that would allow us to fit in the programme required by León and Carmen: a very compartmentalised night area and a large, open day area.

The Puri parade is the result of a personalised grid whose inclinations are consistent with the existing ones. The new proposed layouts allow us to separate the day zone from the night zone through the inevitable corridor, which in the proposal ceases to be the gloomy and narrow corridor we had known. Instead, it becomes a pleasant walkway whose sole function is no longer merely to be a route, but in it we find storage pockets, reliefs, natural light, works of art and the accesses to the different rooms. All this thanks to the consistent angles of the new grid.

Blurring the boundary of the façade is the second main objective of the architectural intervention. While the existing dwelling had a timid relationship with the exterior, in the new proposal it will be completely turned towards it, hence the terrace can be accessed from each one of the rooms. This idea is enhanced by the use of the same ceramic piece to resolve the interior and exterior paving. It is here that the idea arises of playing with the ceramic combinations that will extend throughout the rooms as if it were a carpet and will help us to strengthen the geometry that has helped us to fit the project in at any given moment.

The colour burgundy acts as the guiding thread of the intervention throughout the house and it was the clients themselves who proposed it and expressed their desire to integrate it. Thus, the idea of a stroll, route or parade is reinforced: from the entrance, splashes of burgundy in the manner of furniture accompany the transit through the house until reaching the island where the family meets every day. Details in wood and the colour green in ceramics are also incorporated to balance the warm colour of the burgundy that is so present in the house.
